Presentation of Awards, A.G.M

Presentation of awards , A.G.M followed by tea and mince pies and a quiz

It was horrible weather outside but it didn’t deter 30 people from attending. The evening started off with the presentations of the trophy’s to members who won awards and gave great support to the summer show. This was followed by the A.G.M and each of the officers gave their report starting with our treasurer who said that the club was in a good position financially in spite of a lower attendance at the show and less entries. It was suggested and agreed that entry to the show by the public should rise to £2 and members show entries to rise to 30p per entry. Our chairman then gave a resume of the years events and all agreed the speakers had been interesting and the trip to East Bergholt a great success. It was then time for the election of officers and it was really good news that we had 3 new members plus a volunteer to take over the website and someone to book the speakers for 2024. It was also announced that there were changes to the Schedule, in that show dates had been changed and also some of the classes had been reduced. We then had a garden quiz run by John wells who divided us into 2 teams, Pansies and Daisies. Some of the questions were quite hard but when we had a question about songs with flowers in them one of our members broke into song joined by other members with much hilarity and that set the scene for more singing. After Tea, mince pies and shortbread the quiz continued, easier this time and the final result was that the daisies won helped a great deal by a very clever lady. A lovely fun filled evening and everyone went home with a smile on their face. We will all meet again for the social on January 18th 2023.

New Year, New Webmaster

We would like to say a big thank you to Sheila who has done an amazing job keeping our website up to date in the past eighteen months.  We wish her well as she moves on to pastures new.  From January this year Debbie will be taking on the role as Webmaster.  For website queries please get in touch with her through the contact form on our Get In Touch page.

Bereavement

It is with great sadness that one of our staunchest members have died. Our sympathies go to his family and partner Marion.

Allotment Sharing

One of our members has 2 large allotments at St Margaret Road site in Lowestoft which he shared with his late mother and her partner. He has tried to keep them going but is finding it difficult on his own. He finds gardening very therapeutic and having suffered from cancer himself he wondered if other members who have had similar experiences could join him on his allotments where they could share experiences and socialise together. Without a team to help him he will have to give up the allotments but feels it would be beneficial to all concerned to work together. For more information please complete the contact form.

Changes to membership fees

It has been agreed by both the members and the committee that the membership fee will increase to £10 per annum, In order to get good speakers we need to increase our income, speakers costs have also increased as have their travelling costs. The entrance fee will remain at £1.00 with first time guest free of charge.
