Tim Fuller’s nursery, The Plantsman’s Preference is well known for specialising in hardy geraniums, ornamental grasses and interesting perennials.
Tim’s talk to members focused on ornamental grasses. He began with an edited explanation of some of the differences between true grasses, sedges, rushes and bamboos. He then moved on to a slide show, of examples of plants, and explained why they may or may not be suited to a garden.
It was clear that while there is probably an ornamental grass for every garden, be it a prairie style vista or a patio pot, research is the key. Tim encouraged members to consider the likely height and width of any plant they might choose in addition to considering the habit, colours and forms of the leaves and flowers. While some plants of course will self seed aggressively, others will remain well behaved.
Tim encouraged members to visits gardens or specialist nurseries, like his, to see first hand plants they are considering buying.
Tim kindly provided members with a plant listing for the plants in his side show, and a 10% off voucher for use at the Plantsman’s Preference this year.
