WAVENEY GARDENING CLUB

A warm welcome awaits

We would love to see you and you would get a warm welcome. There is no charge for first time visitors.

We are gardeners of all abilities. The club meets every 3rd Wednesday, entrance fee is £1 and usually 50p for refreshments. The membership fee is £10 per annum. We have a variety of Speakers covering all aspects of gardening, we also sell plants when available and have a raffle.

March/April we have a Spring Flowers evening when the members bring in flowers from their gardens according to a schedule, from tulips and daffodils to hellebores and primroses. These are judged by the members themselves and is very light hearted. This year we will be launching our new name and inviting non members along to meet us and maybe bring a pot or bunch of flowers for our visitors table. In July we have the members table show which again is according to the schedule and covers a wide range of flowers and vegetables plus flower
arranging. This is judged independently and winners are awarded Trophies.

August is the main show which is open to the public and is held at Carlton Colville Community Centre. This runs for 2 days and there are many different classes including, floral art, handicrafts and photography. Tea/ coffee and homemade cakes are available for the public to purchase. There is a different judge for each class and winners receive a small monetary prize plus the presentation of a Trophy. These are presented at The AGM.

In January we have a social evening when refreshments are provided.

All meetings are held at: St Lukes Church, Homefield Avenue, Lowestoft, NR33 9BX.

In certain circumstances it may be possible to provide transport, depending on where the member lives.

New Year, New Webmaster

We would like to say a big thank you to Sheila who has done an amazing job keeping our website up to date in the past eighteen months.  We wish her well as she moves on to pastures new.  From January this year Debbie will be taking on the role as Webmaster.  For website queries please get in touch with her through the contact form on our Get In Touch page.

Bereavement

It is with great sadness that one of our staunchest members have died. Our sympathies go to his family and partner Marion.

Allotment Sharing

One of our members has 2 large allotments at St Margaret Road site in Lowestoft which he shared with his late mother and her partner. He has tried to keep them going but is finding it difficult on his own. He finds gardening very therapeutic and having suffered from cancer himself he wondered if other members who have had similar experiences could join him on his allotments where they could share experiences and socialise together. Without a team to help him he will have to give up the allotments but feels it would be beneficial to all concerned to work together. For more information please complete the contact form.

Changes to membership fees

It has been agreed by both the members and the committee that the membership fee will increase to £10 per annum, In order to get good speakers we need to increase our income, speakers costs have also increased as have their travelling costs. The entrance fee will remain at £1.00 with first time guest free of charge.
