A warm welcome awaits
We would love to see you and you would get a warm welcome.
Waveney Gardeners Club meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month. We are gardeners of all abilities and various interests in all things horticulture. Non members are welcome to any of our meetings but can only take part in our March and June Show by joining the club.
In March we have a Spring Flowers evening when the members bring in flowers from their gardens and allotments according to a schedule. These are judged by the members voting on the night. It’s a very light hearted evening.
In June we have the members table show which again is according to the schedule and covers a wide range of flowers and vegetables plus flower arranging, cookery and photography. This is judged independently and winners are awarded trophies.
August is the main Summer Show, our biggest event of the year. This is open to the public and is held at Carlton Colville Community Centre. The Summer Show runs for 2 days with over 140 classes including, floral art, handicrafts and photography. There is a tombola, a plant stall and refreshments including homemade cakes are available for the public to purchase. There is a different judge for each class and winners receive a small monetary prize plus the presentation of a trophy. These are presented at The AGM in November.
The entrance fee for meetings is £2.50 for members and £3.00 for non members, which includes refreshments.
The membership fee is £12 per annum. We use this money to pay for the church hall, our speakers and to support our events such as the Summer Show. We have a variety of speakers covering all aspects of gardening, we also sell plants when available and have a raffle. The WGC is run by volunteers.
All meetings are held at: St Lukes Church, Homefield Avenue, Lowestoft, NR33 9BX.
In certain circumstances it may be possible to provide transport, depending on where the member lives.
